I am so with you on the existential benefits of sports fandom. I have Thorns season tickets and frequently talk about how good it is for my mental health to have prepaid out of the house obligations throughout most of the year.
I co-sign the WNBA endorsement. Ever since I became obsessed with the league, my life has gotten gayer and happier. If you've never been in an arena full of lovely people cheering for elite queers, GO ASAP. Maybe you, too, will burst into happy sobs when it happens. (My first WNBA game was pride night in Vegas a few years ago. The feeling knocked the wind and the tears right out of me and my wife.)
